Where is Ruidoso, New Mexico?
Ruidoso is nestled within the Sierra Blanca Mountains in the southern portion of New Mexico, roughly situated between Roswell and Alamogordo. This convenient destination is popular with those from nearby areas such as Texas and Mexico, but we do have visitors who come to Ruidoso from all over the country! This quaint town has become one of New Mexico’s most popular tourist destinations thanks to the welcoming locals and Ruidoso’s wide range of unique activities, and the beautiful year-round Ruidoso weather.
Nearby Airports
If you’re planning to fly to the area, you could choose from a couple of different airports. The most convenient option for most flyers is going to be the Roswell International Air Center. This airport is 78 miles away, making it the closest airport to Ruidoso, NM. Another popular option is the El Paso International Airport, which is slightly further away at 133 miles.
If you’re okay with flying into a smaller airport, there is a Ruidoso airport right in town! The Sierra Blanca Regional Airport is owned by the village of Ruidoso and sits just three miles outside of the city. However, since the airport is relatively small, it might be difficult to arrange a flight.

Driving Instructions
Want to drive to get to Ruidoso? Great choice! Many of our guests drive in from bordering states. Luckily, Ruidoso’s directions are pretty straightforward, no matter where you’re coming from.
If you’re driving in from the El Paso area, expect your trip to Ruidoso to take about 2.5 hours. You’ll want to start by getting onto I-10 E, then take Exit 22B for US-54. Follow the signs to continue onto US-54 E/Alamogordo for the next 9.4 miles. Continue onto Exit 32, then keep going on US-54 E. This section of the journey will last about 48 miles and will take you into New Mexico. After this portion, take the exit to continue onto US-54 E for another 24 miles before turning onto US-54/Charlie Lee Memorial Relief Route. After 5.4 miles, turn left onto US-70 E for 42.5 miles. Then, you’ll take Paradise Canyon Drive and Hull Road to get into Ruidoso!
Are you traveling from the north? Albuquerque is about three hours from our town, but the directions to Ruidoso are still quite simple. Start by getting onto I-25 S and stay on it for 84.2 miles. Take Exit 139, then continue onto US-380 E for 73.3 miles. Then, you’ll take a slight right onto NM-37 S and follow it for 14.2 miles. Turn right onto NM-48 S and continue for 6.7 miles. Finally, turn left onto White Mountain Drive, left again onto Ll Davis Drive, and left on Granite Drive. Then, you’re in Ruidoso and not far from your Ruidoso cabin!
